CAD / CAM — is a new innovation technology that allows to automatize the processes of dental restorations.
CAD / CAM is the abbreviation for Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacture.
CAD / CAM is a complex of equipment that includes the following:
Scanner. The scanner that is essential for creation patients' teeth 3D model.
Computer with the special software. It processes a given model and later reproduces the virtual model of future teeth restoration in the automatic or semi-automatic mode. CAD / CAM interface is very similar to the 3D graphic software.
Dental technician can create or change any element of the restoration (wall curvature, contour intensity etc). Once all the changes are done, the file containing the restoration model goes to the milling machine.
Milling machine. Modeled restorations from metal or ceramics are automatically turned on the milling machine.
Thus, the performance of work using CAD / CAM technology is the most accurate and qualitative in comparison with the traditional casting (for example: the size deviation in the CAD / CAM process is only 3-5 μm, in comparison with 50-70μm during casting) that guarantees the lack of balance and precise border adjacency. This is an important issue, especially when working with individual abutments, long constructions on the helical fixation, girder substructure contractions (single arches).
